After 30 minutes viewing the scene and taking lots of pics we popped over to the 'red route' bus stop. This free service takes tourists around the canyon rim to viewpoints. We'd made it into the bus shelter before the lightning started. Then it began chucking hailstones. We boarded the bus and headed off but after half a mile the driver told us his 'controller' had suspended the bus rides due to 'approaching storms' ( good job we hadn't got out half way round the 80 minute tour..) So the bus headed back to base just as the heavens truly opened. We took shelter but everywhere there were people scurrying out of the rain. Reg ( who was a bit light on wet weather gear ) and went to buy a 'poncho' ... no joy they were sold out.

We could'nt set off till the rain eased but there were more storms heading our way - obviously we'd upset the rain god and we were in for another soaking.
